Editorial Reviews:

This book provides instruction on how to use the OrCAD design suite to design and manufacture printed circuit boards. The book is written for both students and practicing engineers who need a quick tutorial on how to use the software and who need in-depth knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of the software package.

There are two goals the book aims to reach:
The primary goal is to show the reader how to design a PCB using OrCAD Capture and OrCAD Layout. Capture is used to build the schematic diagram of the circuit, and Layout is used to design the circuit board so that it can be manufactured.
The secondary goal is to show the reader how to add PSpice simulation capabilities to the design, and how to develop custom schematic parts, footprints and PSpice models. Often times separate designs are produced for documentation, simulation and board fabrication. This book shows how to perform all three functions from the same schematic design. This approach saves time and money and ensures continuity between the design and the manufactured product.

· Information is presented in the exact order a circuit and PCB are designed
· Straightforward, realistic examples present the how and why the designs work, providing a comprehensive toolset for understanding the OrCAD software
· Introduction to the IPC, JEDEC, and IEEE standards relating to PCB design
· Full-color interior and extensive illustrations allow readers to learn features of the product in the most realistic manner possible
· FREE CD containing the OrCAD demo version and design files

Summary: Good Book
Comment: This book is a good starting point for learning PCB design with a focus on Orcad.

Summary: Very Good book for Layout
Comment: If you have some to little experience with layout then this is definitely a good book. If you're an expert then this not the book for you. It brings up design issues that most would not think about unless you've had a class on EMC and PCB design. It also provides some practical examples which are also a useful reference for creating a successful PCB fast. This not a substitute for OrCAD's documentation but it condenses it down into something manageable and points you to sections in the documentation when useful, saving time.

Summary: Complete PCB Design Using Orcad
Comment: This book allowed me to understand Orcad will enough to successfully layout a PCB from scratch. I do have an electronics background but had no prior PCB layout experience. For less than $60.00 I consider this book a bargain. The flow and layout of the book is outstanding. The book starts with a simple layout to ensure you have the basics down and progressively builds from that point. After gaining the required knowledge from reading the book and completing the examples, you will want to have this book around as a reference material for future layouts. The book touches on many of most common and advanced features of Orcad schematic capture and PCB layout. Keep in mind that the book only briefly mentions PSpice with a few simple examples. If you are looking for PSpice as well as Orcad layout, you should look for a good companion book to supplement this good Orcad book.

Summary: Complete PCB Design Using OrCAD Capture and Layout
Comment: If you are are starting in PCB layout, then perhaps this book may be of help, however most of what is given is already available in OrCAD tutorials and user guides. The formulas and equations while not part of OrCAD tutorials are available from a number of sources. On the other hand if you are already familiar with OrCAD layout and are about to embark upon your first PCB layout incorporating blind and buried vias or want to know how to create 3D output of your layout, this book is completely useless. These topics are merely mentioned with no details on how to create such designs and the potential problems ( and there are a few) one would encounter and the work arounds.

Summary: OrCAD Layout
Comment: Cadence published mid last year that OrCAD Layout has no new development and has been killed as a product.
