Customer Rating: Summary: can do self diagnosis Comment: If you are a medical layperson, you can use this book in a "self-diagnosis" mode, with very little risk. Several of the tests can be done by yourself. You have to understand enough of the medical jargon, which is mostly about anatomy. Straightforward. Keep in mind the title, "physical examination". The tests are all meant to be done by a doctor or nurse with mostly manual steps. No medical instruments.
Some tests really do involve 2 people. You and the examiner. In this case, you can recruit a non-medical friend.
By and large, all this should be safe. There's no surgery involved. Just remember that you should not perform some steps beyond or even close to a pain limit. If you are doing tests, it may be because you have some physical problem. Watch that pain threshold.
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing book! Comment: This book is so helpful. It turned my practical test scores around 100%. It is great for the visual learner!
Customer Rating: Summary: Classic, gold standard Comment: There is only one Hoppenfeld. For what it is, it's the best. It's all diagnosis. Not a word on treatment. But it gives a good review of not just the physical exam but also the underlying anatomy and biomechanics. Two other books are worth getting. Magee's Orthopedic Physical Assessment is a good background book to have on your shelf. It's written by a physical therapist, so the perspective is a little different if you're an MD or DO, but it's still useful. Lots of physical exam maneuvers. Cooper's Pocket Guide to Musculoskeletal Diagnosis is short and sweet and gives diagnostic work up as well as treatment insights.
Customer Rating: Summary: Mediocre Comment: The layout of the text is monotonous
The content is below average as compared
to many other physical exam texts, important
exam techniques like ober's test, acetabular
stress test, patrick's test etc are not
dealt with adequately
Poor buy
Customer Rating: Summary: Good book Comment: Easy to read. A little too heavy on the biomechanics for my taste. I would have liked better pics. But good overall.
