Do the math: If a mother averages six diaper changes a day, she'll change 2,190 diapers during her baby's first year. Things improve slightly over the next twelve months. Based on five changes a day, she'll add another 1,825 diaper changes to her score. By the time her child is half- way to her third birthday, Mom will pass the 5,000 mark. That's a lot of dirty diapers! If this mom is you, it's no wonder you might be thinking seriously about potty training. While successful potty training in itself isn't considered a developmental milestone in a child's life, it is nonetheless an important transition for both you and your child. The good news is that potty training doesn't have to be complicated and neither does a book that explains it. Busy moms need a resource that gives them comprehensive information without a lot of unnecessary details and presents them with options instead of a one-size-fits-all program. Potty Training 1-2-3 provides all of that and more. The more is in the results.

Customer Rating: Summary: Easy as it sounds...1-2-3! Comment: I researched potty training books for a long long time and finally settled with Potty Training 1-2-3 because the idea behind it made sense to me and I thought would make sense to my 2yo son. I stressed about potty training WAY more than I needed to. I blocked out 4 days to potty train and was prepared with treats/rewards and juice....determined to make this happen the first time.
But, on the first day, my son was more excited about wearing 'big boy undies' than receiving treats for staying dry and clean that we ditched the treats altogether...and his motivation for staying clean and dry was wearing his undies. He only had 2 accidents on day one, woke up the first night wet and asked to go potty then went back to bed, and on day two he didn't have any accidents and was telling me when he needed to go potty. We even went to the store on day two and on the way in, he said he had to go potty so we stopped and used the public restroom...and he stayed dry the whole 2 hours we were out and about.
I attribute his success to this book because the concepts in it make sense and work. The goal is to stay clean and dry by going on the potty so if you can get your kid to understand that, you are in for the win!
I also purchased Elmo's Potty Time DVD and showed that to him a couple of times on day one, while he sat on the potty watching it, and I think that helped a lot too...
Customer Rating: Summary: Needs editing Comment: I felt confused and annoyed when I finished this book. It was poorly written and in need of copy-editing. Transitions from one subject to another were poor or non-existent.
The book opened with a couple of stories, obviously designed to impress on the reader what a great method the authors are presents. However, the stories were incomplete, unbelievable, and awkward to read.
The main theme in the book is to reward the child for being clean and dry, not for using the potty. That makes sense, and I will try it. However, if I give as many rewards as the book suggests, all she will be doing all day is eating or getting rewards. This is definitely a bribing method.
I didn't feel like I could use many of the suggestions that the book gave, and I was frustrated with the reading process.

Customer Rating: Summary: Potty Training book Comment: Great book & so simple. As a teacher I did this type of positive reinforcements with kids all the time. However, I neglected to do it at home with the kids. This really works!
Customer Rating: Summary: wonderful guide Comment: this book shares several different approches to potty training and the list of signs of readiness were especially helpful.
Customer Rating: Summary: Going good but still have questions Comment: Things are going great with training my two year old to potty. I feel like it is mostly because she was the one that showed interest and I just went along. But I am having a hard time getting her to poop in the potty. I KNOW she needs to go because she comes to me and asks for a diaper so she can go. Although I agree with everything the book says I feel like it is too short and doesn't contain enough information. I have a lot of unanswered questions.
